Dear all,

I have calculated the vortex core in swirling pipe flow using Tecplot.

The confusion that I have now is whether the vortex core calculated is based on time-averaged data or from the instantaneous flow filed. I have imported only a single case and data from Fluent into Tecplot.

Any reference to this would also be useful to me.

I look forward to your reply.

It depends on the choice of field variables.

If field variables correspond to instantaneous values then vortex cores are also instantaneous.

Hi,

The vortex core extraction is always calculated from the instantaneous flow field (i.e. the current time step).

Please see Tecplot's knowledge base should you wish to extract a vortex core over time:

Hope this helps,

Hi ,
I am performing simulation on a rectangular wing at subsonic speeds . I have extracted the vortex cores in tecplot360 on the completion of my simulation . I was wondering is there any way I could get the space coordinates of the vortex cores in tecplot360?

The Vortex cores are extracted by tecplot in a separate zone. you can then write the data as tecplot ascii and export the zones with name vortex core.
there you have it, the coordinates of the vortex cores
