Hey everyone,

We're a couple of students, currently working on a bachelor endterm project on developing a quadcopter. For this, we want to analyze the airflow patterns, 2D and possibly 3D, check out the behaviour at the tips, perform some noise estimations... Quite optimistic tasks, given our very limited (close to none) practical experience with relevant software. We are looking into CFD, and were advised to do a first order estimate using the actuator disk theory. Currently, we are looking into the SU2 tutorial on the topic (https://su2code.github.io/tutorials/..._VariableLoad/). With the given parameters, we manage to replicate the results; however, we are experiencing some troubles with the problem setup for our particular case. We used the python code and model the propeller accurately, but are not sure how to proceed with modelling the flow. Any insight would be appreciated!

On a side note: how far do you think we can dive into the topic, if in terms of resources, 2 inexperienced people dedicate ~40 hours each? We're well aware it is a steep learning curve, but we hope to generate some realistic results. Unfortunately, we are unaware how realistic our expectations are and what we should aim for.

Have you already talked with Matteo Pini? He is the local expert on SU2 for you (or one of the TUD PhD students), so if he is not involved in the project, please have a chat with him.

Hey! We sent him an email and are trying to get in touch with him. Meanwhile, while we are waiting, we were hoping for some preliminary guidance. Still, thank you very much for the response.
