Hi,

Can someone explain me why all wind turbine/propeller simulation uses a rotating frame (GRID_MOVEMENT)? Isn't it possible just to use the SURFACE_MOVEMENT setting for the blade surface?

Regards,

You can use the SURFACE_MOVEMENT if the turbine is not rotating (sorry... had to go for it).
To simulate a rotating thing without actually rotating it you need a moving reference frame to capture the effect of inertial forces.
Imposing just surface velocity is not enough, the fluid away from the walls is also subject to forces due to the rotation.
