I was wondering if we could use 'Moving_Wall' option under Dynamic Mesh to simulate ground effect? Would that be appropriate or in-consistent wit SU2 formulation ?
Thanks
Narahari

Hi Dr. H.K. Narahari,

I am also interested in simulating ground effect using SU2.
Did you find a way to solve your problem?
It would be very helpful if you give me direction regarding this.

Hi,

I use this config file to simulate ground effect. This is an example of a 3D aircraft flying straight at X meters from the runway with a pitch of -3 deg. The mesh is built so that the bottom boundary condition is tilted 3 deg in the y axis.

A similar effect can be achieved with the model of the aircraft rotated -3 deg and setting the AOA = 0, but I did it the other way for other reasons.

For the ground boundary conditions I chose a symmetry bc because I don't care about temperature and as an Euler simulation, both Euler wall and symmetry are the same. If your simulation is RANS, use the heatflux wall boundary condition.

Hope this helps,
JD

Hi JD,

Thank you very much for the file.

Why don't you specify your ground (Euler-wall) as moving wall boundary condition and specify velocity of the wall to capture the ground effect?

Best regards,
Rejish

In an Euler simulation, both moving and regular wall will be the same as the wall condition is no penetration, not velocity = 0
