Hello.
I am interested in learning to use either openFOAM or SU2. Both are much more complex than the CFD software I have been using. They are not user friendly. But, I like a challenge. It seems to me they are used a lot for flow analysis in an enclosure, such as a pipe. That's great, but I am interested in airplane design. Can someone direct me to tutorial videos which show how to load in a mesh model, preferably from SolidWorks (STL ASCII) or NeTFAB? Then set up the analysis parameters, run the problem, and extract lift and drag for the whole vehicle and then sections of the vehicle's wing for aero loads development? I am getting rather excited about this software. I hope I can master it - well, maybe just learn how to use it!!! Regards, Joe T. |

Hi Joe,
We are happy to you are looking to use SU2. I agree SU2 can be daunting to begin using. As for a tutorial video, I recall there was someone who did a short series on SU2. They should be easy to find on youtube. SU2 has a pretty large suite of Test Cases and Tutorials: TestCases: https://github.com/su2code/TestCases Tutorials/Examples: https://github.com/su2code/su2code.github.io As for the meshing aspect of the process, I am not sure if there is a comprehensive tutorial. There are few videos on youtube that talk about some of the process....particularly with Pointwise (this may help with most questions you may have). SU2 can handle meshes in in cgns and su2 format. I know gmsh and pointwise can export a mesh into these formats. I hope this helps, and i you have any more question, please let us know. Good Luck! Best, Wally |

There are a couple of youtube videos by 'JoshtheEngineer' which my students and I have found very useful. There is on which starts with creating a mesh over a wedge, in 'gmsh' open domain meshing software , exporting it in .SU2 format and running SU2 code. You may find it useful to start off.
