I have noticed when using the discrete adjoint that the surface_adjoint gets two new columns, x_Sens and y_Sens. What are these? I thought they were the x and y components of the sensitivity, but the numbers don't seem to match up. For example one node has the following values -0.440, -0.128, and -0.448 for the Sensitivity, x_Sens, and y_Sens respectively. The magnitude of the vector assuming a x-component of -0.128 and a y-component of -0.448 would be 0.466, not the 0.440 that the Sensitivity says.

Hi Ryan,
you are right, the x_Sens and y_Sens are the components in x and y direction, respectively. Note that Sensitivity represents the sensitivity in the direction of the surface normal and not the magnitude. Tim |
