I am a beginner of CFD and I am very interested in SU2 for its high fidelity and amazing optimization module. However, I have little knowledge about the "adjoint-based optimization". I have read the user manual and the AIAA paper about SU2, the references are only some papers. If I want to learn adjoint method, how to acquire some basic materials about it?

To the best of my knowledge, in Prof. Jameson webpage http://aero-comlab.stanford.edu/jame...tion_list.html you will find almost everything about shape design using adjoint methodology in aeronautics. In particular http://aero-comlab.stanford.edu/Pape...eson.vki03.pdf is a very good survey

If you are looking for a book: B. MOHAMMADI, O. PIRONNEAU: Applied Optimal Shape Design for Fluids, Oxford University Press. (2001) is a good choice.

Best,
Francisco

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. It is very helpful to me. Next, I will read the papers by Prof. Jameson and the book you recommended. I believe that I will understand SU2 with this help.

Best,
Feilin Jia
