Hello,

I have never used Star CCM+ before, and to be honest, have very little knowledge about its capabilities. However, I had used Fluent to model CFD and heat transfer problems. Because of license issues, we are no longer using Fluent and now I have to find an alternative. So, I am trying to assess Star CCM+ capabilities for our modeling purposes.

Is it possible to add user defined heat sources in Star CCM+ models?
Which programming language is needed to write user defined sorces/functions in Star CCM+ ?

Thanks.

Yes. It can be defined for seperate volumes and surfaces. With some jump functions it can also be set for certain geometric locations.

It depends on your function. In most cases, you will not need any specific programming language. There are socalled user field functions, which can be created interactively within StarCCM. I hardly ever needed something else.

If you have something really complex, you can programm a small library in any prefered language plus an interface/header in java.

In general, java neccessary for writing macros(scripts) for automization and batch jobs for StarCCM. So it might be useful to stick to that.

Both ways are described well enough in the manual and the steve portal.

Best regards,
Sebastian
