creating probe on surface to find temperature

I'm trying to measure temperature at a single point on a surface. I create a point under derived parts and snap it to that particular face, and then move it into position. Then I go to reports and select "maximum" and "temperature" and then for parts I select the point of interest. The problem I'm having is that for some of the probes, I'm getting astronomically high temperature values even though in my scalar scene of my surface this is not the case. Some of the probes are working fine and the values are reasonable. What could be the cause of this problem? Is there a better way to measure temperature at a single point?

When you get values of Xe+38 or Xe-38, your probe is simply outside the domain. Every computer has a limited precision, so placing a probe on a surface does not necessarily mean, it is ON the surface - just close to it. It might be slightly away in either direction.
Check what happens when you snap your probe and move it afterwards, it might happen the third direction is not updated and therefore it's no longer snapped... When that's the case, just move your probe inside the domain.

If you are not needing to be super accurate with position and not needing to be consistent across multiple simulations, just point your Mouse Cursor at the point and hit the period (.) key on a Scalar scene. This will report the (x,y,z) values and the scalar. |
