Hello everyone,

I used the flume test to do my experiments under steady flow. After I completed it, I am trying to use REEF3D to simulate the experiments.

I have problems and hope everyone helps.
1. Using the reduced area for REEF3D is reasonable? (Please see the attached figure below)

2. To use the steady flow in REEF3D:
The velocity was calculated at the center of the water section (for experiments = 0.28 (m/s)).
In REEF3D, to declare the velocity compatible with the experiment, I used W 10 and B 60 parameters to do it, for example, W 10 0.056 (0.056 = 0.28 x water depth x flume width), is it right? (Please see the attached figure below).

Thank all

Andrex

Hey! REEF3D does have the capability to model ramps etc., to be used in the NWT (see the command S 61 in the Divemesh guide), so if you want to, you can re-create your flume in REEF3D.

I am not 100% sure about the validity, but as far as I know, it depends on your model's dimensions and how comparable it is to the NWT dimension. But since it's a steady flow problem with a very gentle slope, it might be fine. I would still suggest increasing your domain length to include the ramp in your NWT and some distance.

Coming to W 10, that is evaluated in the way you have mentioned.

Hi rohanjha,

Thank you for your response.

In my experiment, the sediment domain was just set up 1.2m in length ( excluding ramps), and the dimension of my model is solid cubic 0.1x0.1x0.1 m and is in the center of the sediment domain. The Vectrino profiler (to calculate the flow velocity) starts at flat sediment. The width and height of the flume tank are 0.5m and 0.6m respectively.

As my experiment was set up, the NWT dimension in REEF3D will be 1.2m x 0.5 x 0.6m (length, width, height). Is it right and reasonable?
(As you said that increasing the length of the domain including the ramp but at the front of the ramp I do not have data for velocity.)

Many thank

Hey Andrex, you should be fine using the smaller area for your use case since it's a uniform flow problem.

Hi Rohan Jha,

Thank you for your response.

I will try lengths is 0.6 m and 0.8m

Many thank.
