Hello REEF 3D Team,
I am trying to solve scour around a pier, but unable to get the topography of the scour near the pier. Could you please help to resolve this issue

Hi Ajay,

Could you elaborate on your problem? What difficulty are you facing?

I am unable to get scour hole around the pier and I have put the sediment thickness = .1 m but not able visualize it in ParaView

I am assuming your simulation is not crashing.

What do you get when you take a contour for topo= 0 on the vtu files opened in Paraview?

While putting topo = 0, in the information cell it shows an empty data cell. can you please is there anything that we need to add in the ctrl file?

Hi Ajay,

I am using the newest version of the code. I assume, you are doing so as well.

Regarding your problem of not getting any values for the topography: I can not reproduce your problem with your input files that you uploaded. I am getting the interface sediment-water with the contour/clip. You should see it already in the first printout. The sediment bed with a height of 0.1m is reproduced and the still water level at 0.5m as well.

However, I see some main issues:
ctrl.txt:
- You need to consider your wave input (right now it is a kind of steep wave), producing high velocities, consider if this is the input you want
- check also the decoupling of the hydrodynamic timestep and the sediment timestep, the wave might not have reached the pier while the sediment total time is already well-advanced; you could consider to use a later starting time for the sediment algorithm.

- S 17 is not given as an option in the guide. If there is no particular reason why you are using S 17 1, you should not use it.
- Depending on what exactly you try to reproduce, you may need a longer channel, or e.g. not include the wave generation nor the beach zone into the active sediment area. At least be aware.

control.txt:
- please use the S-option for Solid (S 33) and not O 33

Hope that helps
kamath and ajayjatoliya like this.

Thank you, Ronja
I have also one more issue, after a certain period, there is no change in bed elevation it is showing equal to the initial bed level (last two columns of attached png file). could you please help what I need to change in the ctrl and control file.

Check the console out put and see if how long the sim has run wrt to waves and sediment iteration
