Hello Everyone,

I have been struggling to create an unstructured mesh on Pointwise between a 2D object and an external domain (circle) without the use of connectors and split connectors which would change the meshing intensity and if I do only suntructured mesh it will intersect with the other object meshing ... I am creating an aerofoil (structuted mesh) with an external domain (unstructured) to be used in OpenFOAM ... as Multiple Reference Frame and Sliding mesh to determine the aerodynamic interaction.

Please let me know what would be a solution for the meshing problem? . Have a good day

Kind Regards,

Hello Omar:

If I understand correctly, you've created a domain (structured grid) around an airfoil and want to create a second domain (unstructured) between the structured grid and outer boundary.

If that's correct, you first draw the connectors (two half circles) for the farfield boundary. Then you create a unstructured domain with those two connectors as the first edge and the outer boundary of the structured grid as the second edge. Just remember to make certain the inner loop of connectors is oriented opposite the outer loop.

Hope this helps.

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply and advice, I have created unstructured mesh as of your instructions. However, the same issue is still occuring and intersecting with the airfoil structured domain and I am not sure what exactly is the reason for this. Could you please have a look on the attached screenshot and hope that this will be helpful, please let me know what would be the problem in this case?

My apologies for asking specifically but | am a beginner in Pointwise.

Have a good day!

Kind Regards,

Omar,

You forgot to add the inner edge (per John's instructions above) to the circular, far field domain you created.

You can fix it by selecting the circular domain and using Edit, Add/Remove Edges.. menu command.
  1. Select the loop of connectors around the structured airfoil domain as the inner edge.
  2. BE SURE TO ORIENT THE INNER LOOP IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE OUTER LOOP as indicated by the arrows draw on the loops.
  3. When done, press Save Edge button.
  4. Press OK button.
This new edge will produce a "hole" in the far field domain that is point-matched with the inner structured domain.
