Hi all,
I'm new to OpenFOAM and I'm currently doing the 3-week tutorials, using a Ubuntu WSL2 connection through Visual Studio Code. I can run simulations just fine, but my problem is with post-processing, as my ParaView is downloaded on Windows. I can copy my OpenFOAM results files over to windows just fine and the create contours for my simulation, but when I save this Post file as a .hdf and then try open it again, my .foam files are not being plotted. Any idea why this is? Am I not saving the ParaView postprocessing file correctly?

(I can still see the .foam files on left tree when I reopen, but can't select properties or press apply to show geometry)

I think I may have figured it out but would like it if someone could confirm I am doing this correctly. So it seems to work if I choose to Save State instead of clicking Save As. If this is the case, do I still need to Save As, or will choosing Save State save all geometry, property, and post-processing view information? Thanks in advance.

Yes, typically you save a state file. It stores all filters in their current state and hard-codes the location for any file that you loaded in.
States have the advantage, that you can easily switch your post-processing to another source (another simulation case for example) by opening a fresh Paraview window and opening a saved state. Then there will be a dialog asking you where the data sources are coming from, giving you the opportunity to use the stored ones or replace them with new data that you specify the location for.
