Hi guys,

I need some help with drawing a thin cylindrical object on a grid. I can draw the grid using unstructured grid data (.vtk format). I would like to also be able to draw the cylindrical object on top of a grid (position known ahead of time).

Think of the cylindrical object, like a pole (or mast) that comes off a particular grid block (center of the grid block (x,y,z) is known and could be the starting point of the bottom of the pole. I just adjust the z values so it projects upwards and out of the grid. See the attached image where I have drawn the white lines in power point. I want to be able to draw the cylindrical lines together with the object so I can move them around together when zooming, etc.

I am not sure how to do this given that the object should be cylindrical and what type of data to use.

Thanks,

You can create a cylinder with Sources -> Cylinder.

In the properties you set Height and Radius of the cylinder to get the right shape of it. Adjust Resolution if nessessary.

Activate the advanced properties (the gear button) and scroll down to the Transforming properties of the cylinder. In the Translation line you can set the x, y and z offset of the cylinder and so move it around. In the Orientation line you can rotate the cylinder around the x, y and z axis to set the right direction.

Set your grid and the cylinder visible in the pipeline. That's it.

Instead of the Transforming properties of the cylinder you also can use the Transform filter on the cylinder, which will have the same effect.
