Unable to use "cell centers" filter

I'm going through the OpenFoam tutorial and hit a problem pretty fast.
http://www.openfoam.org/docs/user/cavity.php#x5-40002.1 My first time attempting to create the velocity vectors, the Cell Centers filter worked and then paraview crashed attempting to generate the glyphs. I reopened the application and can still generate contours for velocity but the Cell Centers filter does not appear in the alphabetical list. If I manually attempt to use it through the Search feature I don't have any options to apply the filter (ie I can't select velocity). I tried to delete my whole directory and start over but still am unable to succeed in getting the Cell Centers filter. What am I doing wrong? Not sure if its relevant, but I noticed a vtkcompositeIndex in the data source for coloring I don't remember seeing originally. |

Hello, new the forums and OpenFoam and trying to solve the same problem. I was able to get a step or two farther through the tutorial by continuing to do searches for the relevant filters (they did not appear in the menus).
When it came to the tutorial to build a finer mesh I found that calling "blockMesh" no longer produced a '0' directory or any files. This same blockMesh error happened earlier with the base tutorial files ($FOAM_RUN/tutorials/incompressible/icoFoam/cavity), and after this crash also effects the original directory as well. I uninstalled and reinstalled openFoam and paraview and blockMesh worked again. I imagine another reinstall will fix the problem until the next crash, but it won't be just my second reinstall today, and this doesn't seem like a real solution. Anybody have any idea what could be causing this? Is there an earlier more stable version of OpenFoam I should be using (maybe the one that is actually used in the tutorials...)? [Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64] [OpenFoam 2.3.0] [ParaView 4.1.0] |

Hello TheClassic,
just look under "Recent" in the Filter tab, there should be the Cell Centers filter. I don't know why paraview removes it from the alphabetical list after using it once. But it is then under "Recent". With the Cell Centers filter you can't select anything. It is just a filter, that paraview should use the data from the cell center and not the interpolated face data. Best regards, Mike |

Hello adajaga,
just for the next time, if you want to have faster help, please post your problem in a new topic, because nobody expects your problem under this topic. The blockMesh command doesn't make a '0' folder, it makes in the polyMesh folder the boundary, cellZones, neighbours, owner and so on. The '0' folder is necessary for OpenFoam, without that, you can't compute. So when does this error pop up and if you could upload the logfile of your blockMesh command, I could help you. Best regards, Mike |
