Hello Foamers!

I have a question concerning openFoam. I am sorry but I'm still getting use to it, so maybe it's a silly one.

I would like to simulate an articulated kinematic chain that mimics a leg. Since it contains two rigid bodies and joints, I chose to use the rigidBodyMotion library.

From what I've seen in the tutorials, this library is based on the FSI: first it computes the fluid forces and then the consequent motion of the rigid body.
Instead of following this procedure, I would like to PRESCRIBE the motion of the rigid body itself INDEPENDENTLY from the fluid (e.g. with an equation of motion or imposing a rotation).
Is this possible? How can I succeed in it?

Many thanks in advance!!

Hi Enrin,

in the meantime you may have already found a solution by your own, but in case you are still searching: if your motion state is well defined at all times, the mesh motion can be done with the help of solidBodyMotionFunctions. There are translational, rotational, oscillating and tabulated6DoF functions available. With multiMotion you can also combine, which should be sufficient to describe almost any prescribed motion.

Hope this helps,
Jan

Thank you for your reply Jan.

I didn't know that was possible to combine both the rigidBodyMotion with the solidBodyMotionFunction.
At the moment, I slightly changed approach so I'm trying to model the problem differently and I'm using the solidBodyMotionFunction only.

No, sorry this was maybe not clearly formulated. I did not mean combining rigidBodyMotions with solidBodyMotionFunctions, but combining multiple solidBodyMotionFunction...
