Hi Mechy,
there is no better or worse version, they are very similar, so it depends on your needs. You can read a little bit more about it here: https://sites.google.com/site/olafoa...oamenvironment Best, Pablo |

Hi,
as a programmer I have to say that I would prefer 4.x at the moment because it supports full C++11 standards and I really get used to it. At the moment I am programming (2.3.1) some new stuff and need to use old C-style stuff for strings and so forth (terrible). Furthermore, due to the new architecture, the LU calculation (as mentioned in the notes) is speed up to 15%. I think it was Henry's first goal to the new development after he left ESI. However, the PLUS version has also nice other features as also mentioned in the link due to the fact that costumers have influence on it. As reported from the OFW in Portugal, ESI and Extend want to merge somewhen (I hope so) ... in the link, there is a good description how they established (thanks Pablo). I also hope that the Foam+ will support C++11 standard soon.

Hi all together,
i am not sure about OpenFOAM 4.0 & OpenFOAM® v1606+ ... What are the difference between them? Which has more solvers/features? Have both the same source code and the software wth the trademark is compiled by an company. Does anybody know if the two versions are compatible to each other? And last but not least which version would the community prefer, or has a greater community? thank you in advance emjay |

Hi Marko,
I guess the information at http://openfoam.com/version-v1606+/ should tell you the answers to most of your questions. Cheers, Bernhard |
