I like to know if anyone is familiar with handling moving mesh in OpenFoam. I like to do a evaporation modeling, I want to track the liquid-air interface as it comes down due to evaporation. Thank you.

Hello everyone,

I'm new in OpenFoam and I have a basic question: Is it possible to analyze with OpenFoam the average heat transfer coefficient of rotating geometries in a turbulent flow domain depending on the velocity of the cooling flow, the rotation velocity of the geometry, the temperatures of cooling flow and the geometry,… I ask this question because according to the OpenFoam C++ Documentation (http://openfoam.com/documentation/cp...ml/a11233.html) you can choose moving mesh solvers, but than in this category there is no heat transfer solver included? I am at the very beginning with CFD so I’m sorry if this is a stupid question…

Thank you very much!

Hi Saha

In a solver like interFoam (with phase change... interPhaseChangeFoam) the interface isn't directly captured or tracked. You would have to post process (maybe using Paraview) the transport of the phase fraction (alpha) to determine where the interface is (where alpha s 0.5).

Regards,
Brian
