hi all
I'm working on droplet formation simulation in a system in a laminar regime. which software is best to model droplet formation in 2D or 3D?
thanks

Ok thank you Xinze. But another question remains in my mind. Is there a good tutorial for me to follow this simulation by one of those?
Thank you again.

This is really interesting!!

In laminar regimes for multi-phase flows it is obvious both FLUENT/ OF (used as the solvers are available) have problems with spurious currents at interface which can lead to weird behavior of the system. You will find many articles on this issue.

Coming to the difference between FLUENT and OF.
FLUENT uses a technique named PLIC. (interface reconstruction technique based on interface curvature and interface normal computation).
OF uses a scheme named interfaceCompression (sharp and range bound interface but the interface curvature and normal arent accurate leading to the above mentioned spurious currents.)

If you fall under spurious currents you will find many papers on PLIC interface reconstruction methods. But with OF the scope is limited and need to implement something like filtering/ LS methods etc to reduce these nonphysical velocities at interface.

An another package "Gerris" is worth a shot as well where it is seen that the magnitude of spurious currents are in machine level accuracy.

Correct me if I am wrong in describing how FLUENT works. I never used it and what I wrote is only from what I read in papers.
