Dear All,
Sorry for the new thread. I have a mesh for shell and tube heat exchangers in *.msh format. I have imported this to OpenFOAM 231. all the walls are having zero thickness. With some literature survey, i learned, chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam will be of suitable for this case. I have searched the forum and some links on google, but unfortunately not got any satisfactory answers. Code:

Thanks in advance. With best regards, Adarsh |

Hi Adarsh,
My recomendation, if your goal is to learn to set up a chtMultiRegion*Foam case, is to take a strong look at the planeWall2D tutorial. There you will find the answers to all your questions about this solver! After that you will be able to understand what is behind the heatExchanger tutorial. Hope it helps. Best regards, Alex

Some basic tutorials are also resolved step by step in the web. If you are interested in these matters, you are invited to come in! |

I just can suggest the one I made on www.holzmann-cfd.de
The tutorial mentioned in the wiki page is not working properly. Bruno already told me to fix it but it is not as trivial as one thinks and to be honest, there is no time

Could you help me with something? When i run the heatExchanger simulation tutorial and finished, I tried to open the results and i got this error: terofluidos@Cascabel:~/Documentos/openfoam/tutorials/heatTransfer/chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam/heatExchanger$ paraFoam ERROR: In /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-4.1/applications/utilities/postProcessing/graphics/PVReaders/PVFoamReader/PVFoamReader/vtkPVFoamReader.cxx, line 216 vtkPVFoamReader (0x37d0b10): could not find valid OpenFOAM mesh ERROR: In /home/openfoam/OpenFOAM/ParaView-5.0.1/VTK/Common/ExecutionModel/vtkExecutive.cxx, line 784 vtkPVCompositeDataPipeline (0x212cd60): Algorithm vtkPVFoamReader(0x37d0b10) returned failure for request: vtkInformation (0x37d1980) Debug: Off Modified Time: 162970 Reference Count: 1 Registered Events: (none) Request: REQUEST_INFORMATION ALGORITHM_AFTER_FORWARD: 1 FORWARD_DIRECTION: 0 ERROR: In /home/ubuntu/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-4.1/applications/utilities/postProcessing/graphics/PVReaders/PVFoamReader/PVFoamReader/vtkPVFoamReader.cxx, line 216 vtkPVFoamReader (0x37d0b10): could not find valid OpenFOAM mesh ERROR: In /home/openfoam/OpenFOAM/ParaView-5.0.1/VTK/Common/ExecutionModel/vtkExecutive.cxx, line 784 vtkPVCompositeDataPipeline (0x212cd60): Algorithm vtkPVFoamReader(0x37d0b10) returned failure for request: vtkInformation (0x37d1980) Debug: Off Modified Time: 162970 Reference Count: 1 Registered Events: (none) Request: REQUEST_INFORMATION ALGORITHM_AFTER_FORWARD: 1 FORWARD_DIRECTION: 0 |

What is if you make a empty file named paraview.foam and load paraview and load that file? Does the same error occur? Did the solver finished without any problems? Sometimes I have the problem that I abort a simulation while it was writing results. Then the result files are destroyed and I have to remove the latest one.

Forget it! I could find the solution.
I was writing only the command paraFoam instance of paraFoam -builtin. But thank you for all the tutorials! |

Hi tobi, sorry to bother you
I want to simulate flow through one pipe, with two obstacles, this obstacles are inmersed like in the figure. 1.- I export with .msh 2.- splitMeshRegions -cellZones -overwrite (fluid, porosity, solid) i got this : porosity_to_part_4-solid { type mappedWall; inGroups 1(wall); nFaces 24192; startFace 1479713; sampleMode nearestPatchFace; sampleRegion part_4-solid; samplePatch part_4-solid_to_porosity; } This separate my three domains, but the interior faces of my porosity became into wall. I want the fluid flow through the porous media. how can i fix this? In the heatexchanger tutorial they consider walls in the porous medium. Thank you. |
