Dear friends, i am a post graduating student , doing my thesis work in acoustics.my problem is that i cannot input a time varying inlet velocity during my simulation of a Engine acoustics....any body please tell me how to input a time varying inlet velocity(ie, velocity having both amplitude and frequency v=v0*sin w*t) for incompressible, unsteady flow.......

Are you aware that this forum has a search function? Searching "time varying velocity" in the OpenFOAM-forums brings up a number of hits. One of them for instance http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...ch-normal.html (personally I would recommend you groovyBC)

Or use the 'bananas' tricks.

Replace a random boundary condition (like fixedValue) with the word 'bananas'. OpenFOAM will complain and say that this B.C. does not exist. It will give you a list of valid B.C.'s I think you will find something that you can use there.

Then browse to the source and tutorials to see how to use these b.c.'s.

my problem is that to simulate muffler exhaust acoustics using open foam for this i dont know which foam i could use because to simulate the sound i should input a time varying velocity......so please give me the proper guideline....

Look for timeVaryingUniform or groovyBC. They have been explained a number of times here
