Hello!

I have openFoam version 11 and want to use the interIsoFoam for my simulation. But i cant find it. Do i need another version of OF or do i have to add something in my fvSolution.

I noticed for instance that my openfoam version does not explicitly have sonicFoam installed, but it turned out it was incorporated with the rhoPimpleFoam and that i just had to add transonic yes; inside PIMPLE in my fvSolution to use it.

Thanks!

Hello Elias,

AFAIK, this solver is only implemented in the OpenCFD branch (openfoam.com).

Regards,
Yann

Does the .com version come with more solver options in general? Whats the benefit of using .com VS .org

This is a big topic and there is no simple answer.

Both branches have the same origin but evolved differently for years now.
There are common features between both branches, and features/solvers which are specific to each branch.

You should probably pick a branch according to what you need to do with OpenFOAM. Depending on your applications and the solvers/features you need, one branch could be a better fit than the other.

If you are new to OpenFOAM, I would have few recommendations:
  1. Pick a branch and stick to it until you get a bit more comfortable about how OpenFOAM works
  2. When searching for information online, be careful to search for resources matching the branch/version you are using, as some features/commands/syntax could be branch dependent (or even version-dependent)
  3. Don't try to adapt a case coming from one branch to another. It is totally doable but if you are new to OpenFOAM you might struggle a lot because file names and syntaxes partially differ between both branches
