Dear Foamers,
I have been using liquid film solvers since OpenFOAM 4.1 and I was applying phase change models in the "constant/surfaceFilmProperties". Now I am surprised that this file has been completely omitted from OpenFOAM case files in version 11 issued few months ago. My question is: Does anybody know how to apply phase change (evaporation for example) on liquid films in OpenFOAM v11? were the film phase change models somehow replaced by any new model? I have been spending quite some time looking for alternatives for these models, but unfortunately didn't manage to find any. I hope anybody can answer this question. Khaled - I suggest you read the following release note for v11: https://cfd.direct/openfoam/free-software/liquid-films/. As you can see, quite a lot of stuff got changed for v11, including surface films.

Hi Tobermory,
Thank you for your reply. I am aware that OpenFOAM 11 has a lot of changes from v10. I have also read the page you sent, but unfortunately I have not found the solution for my problem. But thanks any way.

Dear Yassin-K, did you find out if the film phase change has been implemented in v11 or manage to implement it yourself?

Hey guys,
I still have the same problem in OpenFOAM v2406. For example, in the hotBoxes tutorial evaporation could previously be visualized through the H20 variable in the fluid region. Now the H2O file remains unchanged for the entire simulation, no matter what themperature the boxes are. Film evaporation does not seem to occur and I find no information about it anywhere. Does anybody know how to enable film evaporation in OpenFOAM v2406? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Best, Paul |

Dear MitchWhiting,
unfortunately it is not included in OF v11 or 12. I had to code new solver and classes to account for film evaporation and other thermodynamic processes.

I am facing the same problem using OpenFOAM12. May I ask you to share your code and explain it to me? I am pretty new to coding and I would like to know more. Thank you very much, Alessio |
