Hello,

I am relatively new to openFOAM and at the moment I am just trying to run as many succesful tutorial cases as I can, making slight adjustments. One issue I am coming up against is the slight variations between versions of openfoam and how that affects the cases. I'm basically wondering whether there is any definite list of differences between versions available such that I would be able to take a case written for a different version and identify exactly what changes need to be made. Thanks

Tobermory will become famous soon enough
Niall, the dev version keeps changing, so it's impossible to state definitively the difference eg between v10 and dev. The changelogs on the OF site(s) provide some of the info, but probably not detailed enough for what you want.

I feel your pain though - initially I started out by using the dev version, thinking that's got to be the best version, right? The most up to date etc. The problem occurs later on when you return to a case, and you are never sure what version of the code you were using at the time of the original modelling. Now I just stick with one version for the majority of my work (eg I'm still mainly on Foundation v8, although I will soon probably try and endure the pain of getting my head around v11), and use other versions when I need the specific models or capabilities that they offer (eg ESI v2012 for DES modelling). That seems to work fine for me. i.e. just upgrade when you need the new functionality.

Hope this helps - good luck.
