Using forces to check for convergence

Hello everyone...
I am currently running a rectangular wing on a small angle and looking at the vortices effect on the wing. I am running the simulation in a virtual wind tunnel, basically the motorbike example but with the wing. I am using pisoFoam with the LES model. To be honest, its been one week of trying to figure out how to work out the residual plot in OpenFoam using windows computer. Its been really difficult and I have gave up on it at this point. However, I was able to plot the Cl and Cd against the iteration to look at the convergence using a python code. My question is, would be it okay to use the coefficient of drag and coefficient of lift as a convergence criterion? I have attached the plot for my Cl and Cd against iteration as an example. This is a really small rectangular wing (10x5 cm), thank you all in advance! |

Hey August,
in principle you need to plot all residuals of all variables to see how stable the solution is. Also, residuals are not the only way to take a case as converged, so forces in your way are viable too (with respect to residuals). But in the diagram nothing can be seen except the peak , so disable this peak to show the real behavior of the forces acting, they will propably oscillating around a value. |
