Good day OpenFOAMers! I am currently doing research on the LES of a Wave Energy Converter and I wanted to ask for some input. Does any solver work better under certain conditions for LES? I am wondering whether piso or pimpleFoam would work better. Additionally, would you know if both solvers work well with Arbitrary Mesh Interface motion? I have used pimpleFoam for AMI but I am wondering if pisoFoam supports it as well.
I would appreciate any input! Thank you in advance. |

For the first part of the question - pimple or piso - well, since you are running LES, you'll be ensuring Co<1, probably Co~0.3. In which case you don't get any benefit from the additional pressure correctors that allow the pimple solver to stretch the Co number to 10 and beyond. So, you basically want to be running piso.
Having said that - you can run pimpleFoam in "piso mode" by just limiting nOuterCorrectors to 1 (ie one pimple iteration per time step) and nCorrectors to 2 (ie two inner loop pressure correctors). That will then give you access to the other features of the pimpleFoam solver. Hope that helps. |
