Hello,

i modified the DamBreak 2D tutorial, an add the third generation. The position of the alpha.phase 1 column i changed also. Here is a picture with three views at the timestep 0.

https://www.imagebanana.com/s/1919/lHbZccfd.html
And here at the timestep 399 (4 sec)
https://www.imagebanana.com/s/1919/Qb68DaA8.html

Why is the "water" collected at the edge of the x axis ? I dont changed the g file the value of the gravity is still 0 -9.81 0.

Usually the water should distribute at the x axis and y axis face ?

Best regards
Kai

I didn't download your setup, but I'd suggest you to check whether your case is still using empty boundary conditions for the front and back patches.

Hey guin,
thank you for your reply.

Yes, both of them are empty. In Paraview they are called defaultFaces.
I will try to set a wall boundary aswell and run the case again.

Best regards

Kai

by the way: i have an offtopic question. How you find the right vertices, faces and so on for the blockMeshDict File. I can open the geometry in Paraview, but i dont find a way to display the vertices or face numbers.

I got this message:

Code:
kai@Kai-Desktop:~/OpenFOAM/kai-7/run/tutorials_of/multiphase/interFoam/laminar/damBreak/damBreak$ paraFoam -block FATAL ERROR: The official reader module for OpenFOAM data does not exist on your system. This means that the version of ParaView you are using was not compiled with OpenFOAM, or distributed with a packaged version of OpenFOAM. For information on packaged versions of OpenFOAM/ParaView and compilation of OpenFOAM/ParaView, see https://openfoam.org/download Alternatively, you might be able to view your OpenFOAM data with the reader module provided with ParaView by running: paraFoam -builtin
Is there any way to do it with paraview 5.8.1 ? Best regards Kai

You can either go again over the installation of the ParaView version that comes along with OpenFOAM (*) or take a look here for other alternatives:
https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/B..._blockMeshDict

(*) It seems to me, you are working with OpenFOAM-7, so look for your relevant scenario:
https://openfoam.org/download/7-source/
https://openfoam.org/download/7-macos/
https://openfoam.org/download/7-linux/

Hey guin,

thank you, for your detailed answer. I tried to reinstall openfoam 7 with the code
Code:
sudo apt-get -y install openfoam7
but it dosent install paraview 5.6.0 again ;(

At the begin of the page for ubuntu you mentioned is the name of the paraview pack written down. So i tried
Code:
sudo apt-get -y isntall paraviewopenfoam56
And it works, perfektly

Thank you very much for your help !

Hey guin, yes you are right, i changed the patches (front- and backwall) from "empty" to "wall". In the new run the water distributes "right" on the floor. But why does have the patches so much influence to the alpha1 phase ? What is different in these two simulations ? Best regards Kai

Hi Kai,

The empty type is meant to be used on 2D cases.
Have a look at the documentation : https://cfd.direct/openfoam/user-guide/v7-boundaries/

Quote:
empty: for solutions in in 2 (or 1) dimensions (2D/1D), the type used on each patch whose plane is normal to the 3rd (and 2nd) dimension for which no solution is required.

Regards,
Yann
