Checking time of a simulation

Hi all!

When running a simulation, say something like this:

mpirun -np 16 interFoam -parallel > log.interFoam &

the terminal does not display an output. So how can I tell what time the simulation is at (not clocktime, but the simulation time)?

Hope understood your question correctly.

You direct the standard stream (excluding errors?) into the file `log.interFoam` by using `>` operator.

If you would like to see the accumulating content of `log.interFoam`, open another terminal at the same location, and do `tail -f log.interFoam`, which will output whatever recorded into the log file to the screen.

If you only would like to see the output, but not to save it to a file, just `mpirun -np 16 interFoam -parallel` will output to the screen.

Followup: if I want to kill the process, typically I would type ctrl+c. How would I do it for this?

Yes, that would do. You can also change the `endTime` settings in `controlDict` if you would like to have an early exit.
