What is the Boundary layer length when estimate Y+ Wall Distance

Hi, everyone. I am new to turbulence models.

When I calculate y+ use the method in this website:

http://www.cfd-online.com/Tools/yplus.php

I am a little confused about the Boundary layer length. Supposed I am doing the simulation of a flat plate, does Boundary layer length mean the length of the plate or just the Boundary layer thickness?

length of the plate. It's used to compute the Reynolds number.

Thanks for your reply, I know the boundary layer length is used to calculate Reynolds Number, but I am confused because someone said the boundary layer length is not the length of plate. But now I know it. Thanks.
