Hello

I want to simulate a perforated plate using the porous media technique. This plate has been used in a silencer and the flow is parallel to this plate(Something like attached picture).

unfortunately, there is no experimental pressure drop data for this plate(Just an experiment for pressure drop in the whole silencer is done). Thus we have to use one of the empirical equations proposed by Smith, Idelchik, Ergun ... to find inertial coefficient and use one of the available methods in OpenFOAM(Darcy-Forchheimer, fixed Coefficient or power-low) for simulation.

unfortunately, these equations can not estimate the correct inertial coefficient and to the best of my knowledge, there is not enough research in this field.

I really appreciate if someone who has experience in this kind of simulations could help me.

Hello Mahdi,

do you have a solution or any ideas yet?

I am facing a very similar problem...

Best wishes,
Anna

Hello Anna,

Unfortunately no. If the fluid flow is parallel to the plate, there is no solution yet.

Regards
Mahdi

Hi all,

you can estimate the pressure drop using an own simulation and only a section of the plate. For different velocities, we get different pressure drops which can be used to estimate the Darcy-Forchheimer Coeffs.
