I am running the fvDOM solver for the first time and I was trying to find the exact definitions of each parameter to put in the 0 folder. Although I found on an article the definitions of:
– G: greatness; incident radiation intensity – IDefault: intensity of radiation I do not really understand what is the difference between those two values. Is there anyone who could explain me? I have not found much documentation about this solver or maybe I just do not know where to look for.

Hi Cristian,
in the 0 folder: G is the BC for the P1 radiation model. IDefault is used in the fvDOM model. Qr is the BC in the viewFactor model. best regards Robin |

Can somebody explain what does nTheta in fvDOMCoeffs means? It is commented as the polar angle in PI from Z to X_Y. Then why some people use 5 or 8 for it (5*PI or 8*PI while 2*PI is 360 degree)? I don't get it, while Z is normal to X-Y i.e angle between Z and X-Y should be zero.

Hi mom,
in the fvDOM model one defines the number of rays to discretitize a quarter of a sphere. nPhi specifies the number of rays over 90° (pi/2) nTheta defines the number of rays over 180° (pi) -> quarter of a sphere when you want an even discretization over the quarter spehre you should define nTheta=2*nPhi. For a good discretization over the hole sphere, keep the symmetry in mind. The complete number of rays results as nRays=4*nTheta*nPhi. The resulting angles for the rays are conforming for every face, regardless of it's orientation. The ray discretization is global and not local. I hope i could help you best regards, Robin |
