Hi every one.
I have a 3D open channel and using interfoam for modeling. Would any one please please answer my question? I do not know if I have to make extra layers of meshes on the surface and inlet and outlet for air? I mean, on the atmosphere face we have to define an extra block with one layer of mesh for taking the effect of air? Also in the inlet and outlet, we have to define extra inlet and outlets for air above the inlet and outlet for air? If it is so, are faces in type of patches? Thanks a lot really. |

There is no need of extra patches for each phase. The VOF method uses alpha to define the two phases. I strongly recommend you to study the dam break case, fully described in the OpenFOAM's User's Guide.

Thanks a lot for your valuable answer. In fact one of my friends whose model has been a weir told me that when l don,t assighn extre blocks for air, it is known as a closed channel by openfoam. Have you made a model like this in openfoam?
