Unsteady state calculation including porous media

Dear Sir,
I am going to calculate the unsteady state calculation including porous media using "pimpleFoam" solver. Can I do it by system/fvOptions file, in which I construct porous regions? And then, which should I use "explicitPorosity Source" or "interRegionExplicitPorositySource"? And if able to do, in case of the steady state, can I calculate porous media not using "porousSimpleFoam" solver but "simpleFoam" solver & fvOptions file? KeiJun |

Hi,
you can use fvOptions with pimpleFoam and simpleFoam. As you ony have one region solved by those solvers you have to use explicitPorositySource for singe region cases. porous SimpleFoam is an old solver with directly implemented capability to solve for porosity regions. I'd recommend to stick with pimpleFoam and simpleFoam. Cheers Fabian |

Problem with SimpleFoam + fvOptions for Porous Media

Dear all,
I have performed a simulation with porousSimpleFoam which run well for determining the flow field in a simple cylindrical domain in the middle of which I placed a porous media for representing the effect of a grid. The porosity model I used is the implicit version of Darcy-Forchheimer law. Then I tried to migrate from the solver 'porousSimpleFoam' to the solver 'simpleFoam' joined with 'fvOptions' set with the 'explicitPorositySource' type in order to check if I was able to reproduce the results I have previously obtained, but the simulation blew up. I think that this is due to the explicit approach by which the porous source is treated. But I am not able to figure out an alternative way to treat the problem, since the 'explicitPorositySource' is the only type available. Does anyone have any suggestion to solve this issue? Thanks in advance. |

Hi,
Till this part Quote:
Post error message, post your settings, post archive of your case. There are LOTS of reasons for your simulation to blow up. |
