Dear Foamers,
Although a lot of discussions exist already on relaxation factors in OpenFOAM, something is still confusing to me. If I use a Pimple or a Simple algorithm in my own solver, and set relaxationFactors in the fvSolution file, 1) are these relaxation factors applied for all transport equations in the Pimple/Simple loop or I need to explicitly write phi.relax() in the code? 2) looking into rhoPimpleFoam, the U equation is explicitly relaxed using UEqn.relax(). So I am also wondering, in case this relaxation is automaticly done in the loop, is it done only for fields and not for equations? 3) if phiFinal is not given in relaxtionFactors, does it mean the relaxation factor is not applied even if phi.relax() is explicitly written in the loop? 4) Finally, for same reasons I need to use both 1.6 and 2.1.1 versions on OpenFOAM. Is there a difference regarding my questions above? Best, Ivan |

Hallo Ivan,
you need to explicitly write phi.relax() in the code. I hope this answers question 1. and 2. Best, Anne |
