Hi Foamers,
I'm working on ship self-propulsion and I'm using OF-v2006 and overInterDyMFoam. My question is : how to replace the propeller in the tutorial boatAndPropeller by an actuator disk ? I want to fix the actuator disk to the ship, so that they can move together. Indeed, the ship is free in surge, pitch an heave. I thank you in advance for your help! Best regards, Alix |

To model an actuator disk, I think you can use one of the following fvOptions:
actuationDisk rotorDisk radialActuationDisk Hope these help.

Dear Herpes, Thanks for your reply. I am already using actuationDisk from fvOptions and I want to know if it's possible connect the actuationDick to the ship. For example in the boatAndPropeller tutorial (OF-v2006) the propeller (rigidBody) is connected to the ship in dynamicMeshDict thanks to the "joint" option from the rigidBodyMeshMotion library. I tried to replace the propeller by the actuator disk but it did not work since it's not a rigidBody. Have you got an idea on how to connect the actuator disk to the ship ? Thank you! Best regards, Alix |

Oh, I see.. Very interesting. I am afraid, I don't think there is out of box functionality to perform this. I think you will need to modify the relevant utilities.
A similar utility, moving body forces, is the actuator-line model with tilting motion of the rotor plane. There are few repos providing implementations in GitHub for this model (one is SOWFA). Maybe you can fetch several things from those implementations. I think the most challenging part could be the parallelisation. I hope somebody more knowledgeable than me can indicate an existing utility to allow movement of body forces.
