Dear foamers,

I know that there is a POD utility in foam-1.6-ext. Anyone know the detail about (1) how can I get foam-1.6-ext, and (2) how the POD actually operates?
Is the POD similar to the one discussed in Delville et al 1999?

Delville J, Ukeiley L, Cordier L, Bonnet JP and Glauser 1999. Examination of large-scale structures in a turbulent plane mixing layer. Part 1. Proper orthogonal decomposition. J. Fluid Mech, 391, pp 91-122

I am going to use the technique to analyse coherent structures in shallow water flows.

Thanks

You can find the 1.6-ext stuff (and much more) in the current 3.1-ext version.
Concerning POD, for my understanding, the implementation follows the classical snapshot method.
You can find a short summary of the mathematics and few references to the applications of such technique in fluid mechanics here:
GT2011-46303, "ASSESSMENT OF NUMERICAL TOOLS FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE ACOUSTIC IMPEDANCE OF MULTI-PERFORATED PLATES", A. Andreini, C. Bianchini, B. Facchini, F. Simonetti
If you need it please contact me privately.
