Dear Foamers,

We are planning a 3rd Users Group Meeting for the Mid-Atlantic / Mid-West region to be held at THE Ohio State University on Saturday, October 22, 2011.
This weekend seemed best suited to Big Ten football schedule (campus is quiet that weekend) and other fall meetings.

Following the success of the first two meetings PSU (Mar.2010: 85 attended) and U-of-Michigan (Oct.2010: 30+ attended) last year (and of course the OFW6 at PSU), we are planning a similar format with some technical talks and presentations, and time for BOF sessions.

Jim Giuliani from OSU Mech-Aero Eng Dept will be hosting the meeting and has arranged a conference room in the very nice home of the MAE Dept, Scott Lab
The conference room is reserved for the Friday evening October 21 as well and we may have a "Basic OpenFOAM Introduction" aimed at local university students (and any one else) if we can develop an interest...

Also helping plan the meeting is Matt Cragun from TotalSim

Please email us with your interest to attend and any ideas for talks, presentations, and BOF sessions or how to make these meetings useful... or if you'd like to help in some way.

We'll post updates on the forum here

An email copy of this was sent to everyone that provided an email address while attending the past two MidAtl OF UGM's, and all of the US and Canadian attendees from OFW6, but please feel free to forward the message to any of your colleagues you think would be interested.

Further details of the weekend will be forthcoming...

Best regards,
Ray

UPDATE:

Plans are moving forward for the 3rd Users Group Meeting for the Mid-Atlantic / Mid-West region on Sat. Oct. 22.

We are planning a schedule something like this:
8:00-8:30: Arrive
8:30-10:00 Presentations - Talks Part 1
10:00-10:15 Break
10:15-12:00 Presentations - Talks Part 2
12:00-13:00 Lunch
13:30-16:00 or later BoF sessions + Intro to OF Session / Training

Jim should have a small website up soon with some hotel and other information.

Right now we have responses from about 25-30 for attendance and 6-8 willing to give short presentations. It did not look like many could make it for Friday evening, so we will just focus on Saturday.

Feel free to email any of us with questions, ideas for BoF's & presentations, or to confirm your attendance (emails in 1st post)

-Ray

UPDATE:

We are about 1 week away from our OpenFOAM UGM here in Columbus and wanted to pass on the latest info…
The meeting is Saturday 22 October starting at 8am at Scott Lab on the OSU Campus.

Jim Giuliani has setup a mini website for the meeting:
You'll find some useful info on Hotels, Directions, etc.
There is NO need to register for the UGM through the site…

The schedule is also posted with a list of attendees that have agreed to present …
..this will be a very informal meeting, (un conference) so anyone else who'd like to speak feel free to email any of us, or just show-up with something to talk about!

We'll collect-up ideas for BoF session in the morning…

One BoF session will definitely be "Intro to OpenFOAM" based on the USB stick used at OFW6.

Hopefully we will have some sticks for those that do not already have them, but feel free to grab the iso from here:
Burn a USB stick of your own based on instructions (item 2) here:
Referencing some specific USB Instructions from OFW6:
(Thanks Brent and Dave at PSU for the work on the USB Stick for OFW6!! )

Right now we have 30+ people who've indicated they are attending

We are hoping to get coffee and lunch sponsors (anyone?...) if we cannot secure them, we may simply ask for a donation from each attendee toward lunch.

Don't hesitate to email any questions or comments.

Thanks and looking forward to the seeing you next week,
Ray / Jim / Matt

UPDATE:

Looks like we are all set for this Saturday's UGM

Thanks to AVETEC, CRAZYAL, OSU Mech-Aero Eng Dept, TotalSim, and another central OH company (that wishes to anonymously donate)...
We've secured sponsors for all refreshments, lunch, and the USB sticks… !

Again, Jim Giuliani has setup a website for the meeting with helpful info and is updated with the latest schedule:

See you Saturday,
Ray / Jim / Matt
