After meeting at the OpenFOAM Workshop, myself and a few more people writing code that relies on OpenFOAM recently started a "Special Interests Group" to discuss anything related to software engineering practices in relation to OpenFOAM.
Short description from the webpage: "The RSE Special Interests Group aims to bring together developers of OpenFOAM and OpenFOAM-related projects. The main goal of the committee is to investigate software engineering practices that can facilitate the development of OpenFOAM and its integration with downstream and related projects, as well the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reproducible) management of community-contributed research software and data. " We have our second meeting today, 29/09/2023 at 13:00 CET (Germany), online, open to the public. Topic: "Reproducible code and cases, with examples from the OpenFOAM Journal". Anyone can just join and leave at anytime, there is no registration required, or any commitment expected. You can already vote for the next meeting date, and propose a topic here. We will be announcing some of the meetings here, but check the webpage for the latest information. |

Our next session is currently set for December 7, 13:00-14:30 (trying a 90min session):
https://wiki.openfoam.com/Research_S...Interest_Group Our current topic is "Technical overview of regression testing frameworks and approaches, in the context of OpenFOAM", but I am waiting for some speaker confirmations before setting this in stone (edit: confirmed). The topic is "Topic: Technical overview of regression testing frameworks and approaches, in the context of OpenFOAM". We currently have one speaker (Henning S.) who will give an overview, followed by discussion (and I assume some demo). All the latest information is here: https://wiki.openfoam.com/Research_S...Interest_Group |

Our next session is coming up this Thursday, April 11, 13:00-14:30 CET. Learn about automatic code formatting and particular challenges in the context of OpenFOAM, discussing solutions implemented in related projects.
Besides the expected status update from the previous meeting, we will have a short talk by Gregor Olenik (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) on "Adopting modern software development practices within the NeoFOAM project".
