This thread is set up to facilitate discussions regarding possible Francis-99 activities at the 12th OpenFOAM Workshop in Exeter, 2017 (http://openfoamworkshop.org/).
Find the official information about Francis-99 at: https://www.ntnu.edu/nvks/francis-99. It should in particular be noted that there are meshes for OpenFOAM, and some OpenFOAM case set-ups available since the second workshop, see the mesh download link at https://www.ntnu.edu/nvks/test-case. The presently suggested activities are endorsed by the Francis-99 organizers. The purpose is to be complementary to the original Francis-99 workshop, with a special focus on OpenFOAM. Those who are interested in the Francis-99 validation case are of course encouraged to attend the upcoming Francis-99 workshop(s). Those who are interested are encouraged to fill in the form at https://goo.gl/forms/qvH9Rzsm2c00y18s1 Håkan Last edited by hani; March 1, 2017 at 10:30. On this post you may find an unstructured type of mesh of the complete Francis-99 geometry generated from ANSA pre-processor that can be used for the OpenFOAM simulations.
Mesh consists of around 26 million solids and boundary layers are also generated in the domain. All Geometrical and Mesh checks are fulfilled. The Volume is split in two solids, one which will be rotated and the second one which will be stationary. In the provided link https://www.dropbox.com/s/zdlju6mcs7..._mesh.zip?dl=0 the complete OpenFOAM case is uploaded. Only the boundary condition types have been applied on the shell boundaries, not the actual values for U,p,k, etc. Thus, user can modify the case according to his needs by changing the 0 or system folder. If you have any questions regarding the mesh, do not hesitate to ask! Efi |

The official geometry and meshes can be found at https://www.ntnu.edu/nvks/f99-test-case2. There are full set-ups for FOAM-extend. If there are any problems with those links you should contact the organizers.

hello everyone,
I hope you are all doing well in these complicated times. I need help with clarifying a few points on cell zone creation. I am using OF v1806 and the mesh method described in the link below: http://www.tfd.chalmers.se/~hani/kur...hro_report.pdf for zones creation, i create the following topoSetDict file: Code:
actions ( { name rotor; type cellSet; action new; source cylinderToCell; sourceInfo { p1 (0 0 -0.18); // start point on cylinder axis p2 (0 0 0.03); // end point on cylinder axis radius 0.3157; } } { name RC1_int; type faceSet; action new; source patchToFace; sourceInfo { patch RC1_int; } } { name RD2_int; type faceSet; action new; source patchToFace; sourceInfo { patch RD2_int; } } ); > topoSet > decomposePar > mpirun -np 24 pimpleFoam >log & the calculation seems to run fine (need more steps to see the results), but in other tutorials like the one below: http://www.tfd.chalmers.se/~hani/kur...usUrquhart.pdf the following code would be necessary in toposetDict, after defining the moving cells: HTML Code:
{ name rotor; type cell; action invert; } also, do I need to run:">subsetMesh" after "topoSet"? why? Many thanks in advance. Kazu |

cyclicCopyScript

I was trying to use the cycliccopyscript supplied for the F99 openfoam analysis, with the RU-AG5 model mesh, but it gets killed after 7 or 8 iterations/copies because for some reason it cannot find the '1' folder which gets successively written and removed. It seems it doesn't get written again at this point. Do I need to increase the number of sectors to copy and stitch? I could not find how.
Although I used foam-extend 4.0 rather than 3.2 I don't think this is a problem? Could anyone help? Thanks |
