It is my pleasure to announce that simFlow beta version has been recently released.

simFlow, as a comprehensive numerical tool, offers solvers to deal with phenomena such as:

• compressible and incompressible fluid flow
• heat transfer (conduction, natural/forced convection, radiation)
• multiphase flows

These processes can be modeled in both stationary and rotating frames. If necessary, it is possible to treat solid material as a porous medium. simFlow allows you to perform parallel computing just by one click. simFlow is based on open code and combines the advantages of powerful OpenFOAM® libraries with intuitive user interface. simFlow can inform you about solution convergency issues by an e-mail, this way you can keep track of your simulations wherever you are.

Using simFlow you can create/import mesh, prepare case, perform calculations and post-process results. Advanced post-processing capabilities and result visualisation are ensured by linked ParaView software.

Implemented cutting edge methods and intuitive graphics user interface make the software extremely useful and an excellent choice for engineering companies, research facilities and individual users.

130 MB simFlow installer can be downloaded from http://www.sim-flow.com without any license keys.

We hope you will enjoy our software and we are looking foward to your feedback.

When will the Linux (using 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 & 12.10 over here) version be available?

You are apparently combining GPL software with closed-source proprietary software. How are you using the GPL software "at arms-length", so that your proprietary code is not bound by the GPL?

It would be nice if you stated on the homepage exactly which parts your customer is paying for, i.e. only the GUI, or did you develop meshers, solvers, post-processing tools also yourself?

Thank you for your interest in simFlow and your valuable comment.

simFlow binaries are not linked against OpenFOAM libraries. simFlow executes OpenFOAM solvers and applications through command line arguments. In GPL terms simFlow is an "aggregate", not a "modified version" and therefore not bound by GPL.

We are currently working on the Linux version and we will release it soon. It will be distributed as 32-bit binaries (without OpenFOAM or ParaView), however you will be able to use it with both 32 and 64 bit OpenFoam version 2.1.0.

We have taken into account your suggestion regarding information about the software on the website.

I have tested your solution and it looks promising. It is really nice to be "lazy" with OpenFoam (and on windows !). Your case files look good and everything seems coherent.

Some improvements have to be done for the meshing part. It is not very intuitive but I guess it comes from the fact that I almost never use snappyhex. I also didn't find how to create a domain around an imported geometry (I didn't search long time actually).

At the end it is a good initiative, hope to see it growing and becoming perfect/complete.

Hi Aneta,

Are you planning to release simFlow for OpenFOAM 2.2.x? I am now struggling to get simFlow to work in a 64bits machine, where I am not able to install OpenFOAM 2.1.x.

Regards,
Jose

Jose,

simFlow beta version requires OpenFOAM® 2.1.x. We are currently working on the official version of simFlow that will support also OpenFOAM® 2.2.x.
