Howdy Foamers,

I would like to invite any and all OpenFOAM users in the Northeast/New England area of the US to the 1st New England OpenFOAM Users Group Meeting!

We will be hosting this casual meetup at the University of Massachusetts Amherst on April 27th 2013 in the lovely town of Amherst, Massachusetts. It will be free of charge with breakfast and a box lunch provided for attendees.

While the schedule is not yet complete, we plan on having technical presentations, free introductory training sessions (BYO-laptop), and birds-of-a-feather discussion groups.

If you are interested in presenting some of your work in OpenFOAM feel free to submit an abstract and we will do our best to fit you in!

Spread the word to any OpenFOAM users that may have interest in attending or new/potential users that would like free training.

Please register by April 13th so we can plan for the correct number of attendees.

Hello and thank you for registering for the 1st New England OpenFOAM users meeting here at the University of Massachusetts Amherst taking place on Sat. April 27th.


We are currently finalizing the schedule for the day and everything is looking great. There should be a diverse group from regional academia and industry representing numerous fields of application. If you are interesting in giving a short, casual presentation on your work we encourage you to let us know as soon as you can so we can work you into the schedule!

We will be sending out an additional communication closer to the meeting date with information about parking, finding the building, etc.


Registration:

For catering purposes, please let us know ASAP if you have registered but are unable to attend so we can minimize food waste. Also, if you know someone who is planning on attending but has not registered, please have them do so on the website above before this Wednesday the 10th, we would hate to not have enough food for everyone. Note: We will have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian breakfast and lunch choices.


Training:

Anyone planning on attending a training session should have a laptop with OpenFOAM installed (1.6-ext or >2.x) running a linux OS if you would like to follow along on your own machine. If you're having trouble with a foam installation one of us may be able to sit down with you and help you get started.

Hello Attendees,

We wanted to inform everyone of the training sessions that will be going on during Saturday's meeting.

Two sessions will be given concurrently:
1. An introductory session for new users
2. A session more geared for intermediate users with some experience interfacing with OpenFOAM but would like to some exposure to working within the solver source code.

For those of you who would like to attend the introductory session, please bring a laptop and a sizable flash drive if possible. The instructor, Dan Combest, will be bringing a live Linux distro to work from. This will help you follow along on your own computer and keep everyone on the same page.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have, see you all Saturday morning.

We wanted to thank you all for coming to the 1st New England OpenFOAM meeting. We were very happy with the turn out, the technical presentations, and the excellent training sessions delivered by Dan Combest (Engys) and Nat Trask (Brown Univ.). We have a strong yet growing OpenFOAM community here in New England, and it seems that many of you took this meeting as an opportunity to grow your network of friends, colleagues, and collaborators.

The organizers Maija & Kyle, Prof. David Schmidt, and the Multi-phase Flow Simulation Lab here at UMass Amherst are proud to have hosted all of you and hope that this tradition can continue in the future.

If there are any groups that are interested in hosting a similar get together next year we would be more than happy to share all of our organization notes, just let us know.
