Hello,

I'm new to Salome and have been attempting to create a 3D mesh of a closed loop pipe with control of the 2D circular cross section at any point along the path. I believe the correct algorithm for what I am trying to do is Extrusion 3D and using submeshes for the cross section and wire path, but the option is unavailable when I go to select it. The only algorithms available for the 3D geometry are Body Fitting, NETGEN 1D-2D-3D, NETGEN 3D, Gmsh 3D, MG-Tetra, MG-Hexa, MG-Hybrid, Gmsh 1D-2D-3D, and Polyhedron per Solid.

I've been able to use Extrusion 3D for pipe segments with success, but any attempts at a loop have been met with failure. I've also tried just meshing the 2D face and the Extrusion along a Path meshing option, but with that I haven't been able to implement the groups from the geometry module, so I do not have control over the boundary conditions at different segments of the pipe.

Does anyone have any tips for how I can accomplish this? Or if there is a different software that can accomplish this more easily?

Thank you for your time, I appreciate any help. I am using Salome 9.12.0.

If the geometry is symmetric, you can cut it using a symmetry plane and mesh only one half of the mesh. This is then an open pipe, which you have been able to do.

Next, mirror the mesh to create the full loop. You can do that using OpenFOAM's mirrorMesh tool, alternatively you can also do this in Salome.

That worked! I had to merge some double points and faces, but it works perfect now. Thank you!
