The forum Open Source Meshers: Gmsh, Netgen, CGNS, ... was closed near the end of April 2019 and replaced with prefixes on the main OpenFOAM Meshing forum. The following is my original post that has been restructured a bit in function of the new forum structure. For more details about the new forum structure, read this thread: Map of this Meshing (sub-)Forum

It's expected that with this new forum structure, it is also used to discussing issues with generating and converting meshes that are generated with open source meshers that work independently from OpenFOAM. Nonetheless:
  • The objective is mostly to discuss how to generate and/or convert meshes that are usable by OpenFOAM, under the respective forum prefixes, when available.
  • As for using each open-source software, please refer to their respective official forums and mailing lists, as listed below.
Wiki page with more general information on how each open source mesher relates to OpenFOAM's meshes: HowTo Open Source Meshing

Reference links for each software:

Please provide more links below for other open source meshers that can be used to generate meshes for OpenFOAM, for complementing this post.

One flaw of the Salome software suite was geometry creation with the Geometry module, which was a tedious bottom-up, no-edits-possible sort of thing.

With the latest version of Salome, a new CAD module was introduced, which supports parametrisation and interactive editing of the geometry.
