Hello everybody,

due to the fact that I get messages frequently, I created a new very simple meshing tutorial. In this tutorial, the aim is to mesh a sphere inside a channel and add several layers (six layers 100%).

This is only for really beginners who want to start with snappyHexMesh.
You can find this tutorial here: https://holzmann-cfd.de/

Hope its helpful,

Hi,I've downloaded the case you share. As there is no blockMeshDict in the folder,I make a blockMeshDict by myself.I use blockMesh to get a big cube, and use snappyHexMesh to get the sphere. My question is how could I retain both the cube and the sphere. It means that I don't want to remove any cells in the whole region. Can you give me some advice?Thank you in advance!

I ran this under 2.4.0 and it fails to work. I enclose the log file

Hello yaoyina,

Therefore you have to use faceZones and CellZones in sHMDict. Check out the cht tutorials. Further more you create the mesh in my case with ideasUnvToFoam. Check the script.

@derekm as you saw on my webpage, the tutorial is made for 2.3.1.

At the moment I have not installed 2.4.0 because there is no reason to do this yet.

I will check it in 2 weeks.

Dear Tobias,
I want to mesh around a sphere in a cube and also inside the sphere while I'm using your tutorial for the first one. I'm using the searchableSphere option for defining sphere surface and blockMesh for the background mesh instead of using stl surfaces. (water-proof stl surfaces from salome were also tested.)
Everything goes well when the mesh is coarse and surfaceRefinement level is set to a low number around the sphere. But I need a finer mesh for the background and increasing grid numbers from blockMeshDict or using a high refinement level around the surface, results a bad mesh quality (high skewness) and no layers around the sphere. I attached test case for more information. Briefly, I need a finer background mesh with high number of layers around the sphere.
I would be very grateful if you could give me some comment for my problem.
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Arsalan.

Dear arsalan,

I will not check your case because there is no time at the moment. Just one tip. Scale your geometry by 1000 mesh everything and downscale it again. if it will not work you do something wrong

Good luck
