Hello!
I have a Magnet having two coils. The magnet is surrounded by air. Hence we have four objects, namely, (1) Magnet core, (2) coil_1, (3) coil_2 and (4) air. I saved the geometry into STL files in ASCII. Then I made the attached single stl file. Also I have made one snappyHexMesh file. These two files have been attached. However, I do not understand how can I use snappyHexMesh. It appears that I have to use blockMesh first as per OpenFOAM tutorial. It is tedious to write blockMesh entries for a complex geometry. Also if I use blockMesh then why should I use snappyHexMesh? Is there any simple procedure to use STL file to make mesh for OpenFOAM analysis? Thanks and Regards. |

Hello vegaonline,
I had the same trouble with shm but with Helix-OS this is easy. Hope this helps Wouter |

I am sorry, I could not understand how meshing application could be solved with changing an OS. SnappyHexMesh is part of OpenFOAM which I am running in OpenSUSE 13.1. I want to mesh attached STL geometry. Can you kindly illustrate? Thanks |

Hi,
1. You need to create only surrounding geometry with blockMesh. It can be just a cuboid where all your STL surfaces reside. See $FOAM_TUTORIALS/mesh/snappyHexMesh/flange for example, initial mesh created with blockMesh is rather simple. 2. I wasn't able to view your STL file maybe because you've got several solids in one file. Save every solid in separate file and use $FOAM_TUTORIALS/mesh/snappyHexMesh/snappyMultiRegionHeater as a base for your snappyHexMeshDict. |

hello vegaonline,
Helyx-OS is the free version of Helyx which is a GUI for OpenFoam. But I use it mainly as an GUI for Hsm. In the forum there is a thread for helyx(-OS) Hope this helps Wouter |

Thanks for the advice. I could see my files in NETGEN. I saw some problems in Salome. I saved assembly geometry in ASCII stl files where each solids were saved in individual files. I thought to make them a single file by concatenating. |
