Hi there,

I am trying to install OpenFOAM V8 on my freshly installed Ubuntu 18.04.
  • first, i have installed all the updates for ubuntu using software updater
  • then i jump to openfoam website for installing the openfoam8
  • while executing the step 3 by executing the command in terminal: sudo apt-get -y install openfoam8
  • i got an error- { E: Unable to locate package openfoam8 }

any suggestions, how to overcome it!

Hi!

It looks like that your Ubuntu version is outdated:
Ubuntu Versions
OpenFOAM 8 is a major new release of OpenFOAM provided by the openfoam8 pack. It is accompanied by ParaView 5.6.0, compiled with the official OpenFOAM reader module, provided by the paraviewopenfoam56 pack. Both packs are available for the following versions of Ubuntu, 64 bit only:

16.04 LTS, codename xenial
18.04 LTS, codename bionic
19.10, codename eoan
20.04 LTS, codename focal
I had the same error while installing OFv8 on Ubuntu 14.04, so I had to upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. After that everything went fine ..

Hi,

Have you added OpenFOAM to the list of repositories that apt searches?

Essentially step 1 here: https://openfoam.org/download/8-ubuntu/

Cheers,
Antimony

Can also give these ones a try.
https://develop.openfoam.com/Develop...ompiled/debian

They install without any clashes.

The auxiliary openfoam-selector can be useful for switching between versions.
