Dear OpenFOAMers,
I am wondering if anyone posted steps on how to compile OpenFOAM v5 source codes on UBuntu 1706? I tried to following the steps for OpenFOAM v4.1 on Ubuntu 1606, but, the steps did not work for v5 on Ubuntu 1706. Thanks! Pei |

Quick answer: The official installation instructions are provided here: https://openfoam.org/download/5-0-source/
They don't provide step-by-step instructions as detailed as the ones at openfoamwiki.net, but if people don't complain about the official ones, then the current format will stay as-is. As for the ones that are provided at openfoamwiki.net, I haven't had the time+patience to write and test the installation of OpenFOAM 5.0. However, I have revised and updated the ones for OpenFOAM-dev here: https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/I...OAM-dev/Ubuntu Although I haven't tried using Ubuntu 17.04 yet... and there are a few bugs in how makeParaView works on the "ThirdParty-5.0" package, which should use instead the one from "ThirdParty-5.x". I will try to look into this during this weekend.

Thanks a lot Bruno!
I will give the OpenFOAM-dev installation a try. >They don't provide step-by-step instructions as detailed as the ones at openfoamwiki.net, but if people don't complain about the official ones, then the current format will stay as-is. where should we post suggestion that a step-by-step instructions be provided? I think it is worth it to provide step-by-step instructions for people who are not experts in both linux and OpenFOAM. Pei |

Hi Pei,
For the distributions done by the OpenFOAM Foundation, you can report this on their bug tracker: https://bugs.openfoam.org I do strongly suggest that you make a strong case on what specific improvements should be done to the instructions on the OpenFOAM Foundation website. Simply stating "we need official step-by-step instructions" will likely be disregarded. As for the distributions done by ESI-OpenCFD, you can report this on their issue tracker: https://develop.openfoam.com/Develop...AM-plus/issues The same protocol still applies, namely that a strong case should be made regarding the need to have step-by-step instructions. Best regards, Bruno |
