Hi everyone,
I installed today OpenFOAM from the RPM packages found here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat...86_64.rpm.html I then went through the steps of the installation guide: http://www.openfoam.org/download/source.php at the step of "setting the environment variables", I did as told, the line: source $HOME/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-2.3.1/etc/bashrc is at the end of my $HOME/.bashrc file. Then I typed "source $HOME/.bashrc" in the terminal, although in user mode, but it appeared to execute. Things like echo $FOAM_INST_DIR do work, although I do not know whether it is related or not. However, running any command like blockMesh or simpleFoam won't work: the commands are not recognized, which is the sign that something, somewhere, went wrong. of course, foamInstallationTest fails immediately saying "the environment variables are not configured". Any idea what this may be? I am sorry if this question is very simple, I feel it is, but I did not find it exactly this way in the FAQs, so... Thank you very much for your help! |

Greetings Andrei and welcome to the forum!
Don't install that RPM, because it was not specifically designed for Fedora 21. I recently managed to finish writing the installation instructions you're looking for: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...dora#Fedora_21 Best regards, Bruno

Hi wyldckat,
thank you very much for this link, that I saved! However, I will have to uninstall this rpm now. I'm completely new to Fedora, and had only Ubuntu for a short time before that. Do you have any advice on how to remove this rpm properly, before installing OpenFOAM the way you suggested? Thank you very much again! |

Hi Bruno,
yes, sorry for the stupid question. A bit new to all that, I should have done this research myself. Still, thank you for telling me, I had to have this software up and running quickly, and have very little time in between a lot of projects. Thank you again, if I find anything that I cannot solve after doing the research, I will come back to you! Happy new year, in advance! :-) Andrei |
