Hi
I have tried for some hours to make openfoam230 on an ubuntu 11.04 box. Problem is the repositories don't exist to install the dependent libraries etc. I built from source flex bison and quite a few more but got stuck on libreadline which is down the line dependent on libc6 which it turns out needs v15 or greater. But when i try to install libc6 v19 from deb it fails due to a conflict somewhere. I'm beginning to think that to install new versions of openfoam one MUST update the os with it. on a machine dedicated to openfoam but on a workstation with many other software builds that a minimum will require a lot of fiddling to get to work on the updated os this seems unreasonable. Question then : has anyone anywhere got openfoam230 to install on natty in the past few months or since 11.04 was sunsetted? if so, can you enlighten me as to what one needs for dependencies? thx mike i list the sources.list i have been using here. I swapped 'archive' for 'old-releases' but it didn't help. Code:

Greetings Mike,
Well, if you don't want to upgrade your Ubuntu installation every 6 months, then it's advisable to use one of the LTS (Long Term Service) versions of Ubuntu, such as 10.04, 12.04 or 14.04. Because official support for Ubuntu 11.04 (aka Natty) ended on the 28th of October 2012: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases The deb packages of OpenFOAM for Ubuntu are only released for the most recent versions and/or LTS versions and usually only built when a new version of OpenFOAM is released. For example, only with OpenFOAM 2.3.1 will Ubuntu 14.04 be supported with a deb package. Nonetheless, if you build OpenFOAM from source code, it's usually possible to continue using an outdated Ubuntu installation. For example, if you follow the instructions provided here: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...u#Ubuntu_10.04 - and adapt to using OpenFOAM 2.3.0 instead of 2.2.2, then you should still be able to build it on your Ubuntu Natty. Best regards, Bruno
