The foamMeshToFluent utility can convert only 3D meshes to Ansys Fluent Mesh. Is there any tool that generate 2D Fluent Mesh from OpenFOAM?
As you know, in OpenFOAM if we want to do a 2D simulation we create a 3D mesh with at least one cell thick in the third dimension and specifying it as empty Boundary condition. IMO, it is more natural to have a tool or at least adding some options to the existing foamToFluentMesh utility to convert these 2D meshes to 2D mesh for Ansys Fluent. Is it is easy to program this tool? Last edited by anon_q; February 16, 2019 at 15:56. |

Hi Evren!
You are right since OpenFOAM works with 3D meshes by default and one does not have to treat 2D or axis-symmetric meshes in some special way, no modifications come to your equations. There are too possibilities:

Thank you for your reply dear Alexander,
Yes I tried to go with the second option but it will take some time. here is an example of Fluent 2D ascii mesh. Regarding the first option, I am pretty sure they will never accept the feature request. |

hi Evren) it depends to which team you talk, ESI are quite open. I will have a look a bit later what can be done.
